Friend Peace Houseフレンドピースハウス he Friend Peace Scholarship Fund was established in 1911 in Japan at the proposal of Mr. and Mrs. T. Richards of the Friend Peace Foundation in Hawaii. In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the fund in 1936, a facility was established as a hub for international friendship and Christian promotion in East Asia by renovating the house of J.C. Berry (Director of Doshisha Hospital), known as ‘Nashinoki Yashiki’. Management of the house and land was entrusted to Doshisha. The new facility was named Friend Peace House, Doshisha Hawaii Dormitory. As a token of gratitude, Doshisha presented a hand-wash pot made of a special stone called Taiko-ishi to the Richards in 1936.The house was renovated in 1997. In the spirit of its original philosophy, the house has been used primarily as a facility for international exchange.■ Established on October 3, 1936■ Designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on March 2, 2006A two-story, wooden, tile-roofed houseTotal Building Area: 248m2Designed by: D.C.
