Vories Architectural Firm (later calledW.M. Vories & Company Architects Ichiryusha)At the dedication ceremonyAmherst House was built with funds collected by the alumni and their families of AmherstCollege (Neesima’s Alma Mater) in the U.S. including S.B. Nichols (the first studentrepresentative of Amherst College). Its dedication ceremony was held on October 29, 1935, as partof Doshisha’s 60th anniversary. Since then, Amherst House has been a center for the activities ofstudent representatives and fellow students visiting from Amherst College. Attached facilities, suchas Amherst Guest House and Muhinjuan, were donated in 1962 and 1979 respectively to enrich thefunction of Amherst House as a place for cultural exchange. The hall of Amherst House is also usedfor a variety of ceremonies and lecture meetings, and was once used for a marriage ceremony.Due to its age, renovation of the building started in October 2008. Since the end of May 2009,Amherst House has been used as an accommodation facility, mainly for foreign researchers visitingJapan.? 6 ?
