GreeneConstructed by: Kichibei MikamiAt the time of completionDoshisha Chapel, the second brick building to be built at Doshisha, is the oldest existingProtestant chapel made of brick in Japan. Built in the Gothic style, it features a steep gableroof, a round rose window at the front, arched windows on both sides, and a beautifully designedpointed arch entrance. The interior of the Protestant chapel is typically austere, with wood-framewindows featuring mock stained glass. Chimneys on the east and west sides were once used for thestove in the basement that heated the chapel. The chapel is also believed to have been built with adonation from the American Board. Conservation and restoration of the chapel was carried out from1987 through 1990.Doshisha Chapel is currently used for services, lectures and the wedding ceremonies of graduates.? 2 ?
