栄光館Eikokan? Completed on February 11, 1932? Designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Propertyon October 18, 2000A two-story (partly three-story), reinforced concrete, tileroofedbuilding with a basement and a rooftop towerTotal Building Area: 1,637m 2Designed by: Goichi TakedaConstructed by: Okura Doboku Co., LTD.At the time completionEikokan was one of the three buildings of Doshisha Girls’School designed by Goichi Takeda.‘Eiko’(glory) comes from the Book of Ezekiel (43:4) and the Book of Haggai (1:8) in the OldTestament. A lecture hall inside Eikokan was named Fowler Chapel in honor of Eldridge Fowler,who donated a third of the building fund.The building has been partly renovated and extended several times. A feature which attracts muchattention inside the building is the pipe organ. The original pipe organ was donated by the Woman’sBoard of Missions for the Pacific in February 1941 through the efforts of M. F. Denton. The currentpipe organ was installed in August 1980. In 2012, when Eikokan building was renovated, the roseshapedchandeliers was restored to its original appearance at the time of completion of the building.Ceremonies for the Doshisha schools, such as convocation and graduation ceremonies, as well ascandlelight Christmas services and Christmas pageants, are held in Fowler Chapel.? 11 ?
