Designated as a Registered Tangible CulturalProperty on October 18, 2000A brick, tile-roofed building (two stories above ground,one below)Total Building Area: 697m 2Designed by: Goichi TakedaConstructed by: ShimizugumiIn the early showa eraBrick buildings, including James Hall, Eikokan and the original Seiwakan, were constructed onthe campus of Doshisha Girls’School from the end of the Meiji period through the beginningof the Showa period, all of them designed by Goichi Takeda, whose daughter studied at DoshishaGirls’School.One of the teachers at the Doshisha Girls’School, M.F. Denton, was instrumental in the constructionof James Hall. She worked tirelessly to collect funds for the construction of the building, resultingin a $100,000 donation from the James family (close associates of Neesima) in the U.S. about halfof which went toward building James Hall.In 2001, as part of the 125th anniversary of the foundation of Doshisha Women’s College of LiberalArts, as well as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of a university under the new system,conservation and repair of the building was undertaken. Since the renovation, it has been serving asa place to connect students and alumni.? 10 ?
